Managing Domain Subscriptions
Custom domain subscriptions require active payment to remain functional. This guide covers billing, renewal, cancellation, and troubleshooting subscription issues.
Domain Subscription Billing
How Billing Works:
Flat rate: $1.00 per domain per month
No setup fees or hidden costs
Single Stripe subscription for all custom domains
First domain creates the subscription at $1/month
Domains 2+ increase the quantity on the same subscription (2 domains = $2/month total, 3 = $3/month, etc.)
Charged as separate Stripe subscription (not paid with credits)
Monthly fee charged on the anniversary of subscription creation (when you added your first domain)
Payments processed automatically from your default payment method
Email receipts sent for each charge
Invoices available in your Stripe billing portal
Subscription Model:
ClickerVolt uses a single subscription with quantity adjustments for custom domains. When you add your first domain, a $1/month subscription is created. Each additional domain increases the quantity on that same subscription, not a separate subscription. For example: 1 domain = $1/month, 5 domains = $5/month, all on one subscription. This makes billing simpler and allows you to manage all domains together.
Managing Active Domains
Viewing Domain Status
All custom domains appear in the Custom Domains section with status indicators:
Active: Domain is working and subscription is paid
Pending Verification: DNS records not yet verified
Payment Failed: Subscription renewal failed, domain at risk
Suspended: Domain disabled due to non-payment
Expired: Subscription canceled, domain no longer functional
Updating Domain Settings
Click on any domain to view details and modify settings. You can update the domain name, manage SSL certificates, and view usage statistics.
Renewing and Reactivating
Automatic Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically each month. Ensure you have a valid payment method on file to avoid interruptions.
Failed Renewal
If renewal fails (card declined, expired, etc.):
You'll receive an email notification immediately
Domain enters grace period (7 days)
Update payment method during grace period
After grace period, domain is suspended
Suspended domains can be reactivated by paying outstanding balance
Reactivating Suspended Domains
Update your payment method
Click "Reactivate Domain"
Pay outstanding balance
Domain reactivates within minutes
DNS and SSL remain configured - no re-setup needed
Canceling Domain Subscriptions
How to Cancel:
Go to Custom Domains section
Click on the domain you want to cancel
Click "Cancel Subscription"
Confirm cancellation
What Happens When You Delete a Domain:
Deletion is IMMEDIATE and PERMANENT - the domain stops working instantly
There is no "end of billing period" waiting - removal takes effect immediately
Tracking links using this domain stop working completely the moment you delete it
Visitors clicking deleted domain links will see an error
Your subscription quantity decreases automatically (e.g., 3 domains → 2 domains = $3/month → $2/month)
Prorated credit applied for unused time in current billing period
DNS and SSL configuration are deleted from ClickerVolt
CRITICAL: Switch your links to a different domain BEFORE deleting to avoid downtime
You cannot undo deletion - if you need the domain again, you must re-add it and reconfigure DNS
Removing All Domains:
If you delete your last remaining custom domain, the entire subscription is canceled automatically. You will receive a prorated refund for unused time. If you want to add a custom domain again later, you'll need to create a new subscription (which happens automatically when you add the first domain).
Transferring Domains
Custom domains are tied to ClickerVolt accounts and cannot be transferred between accounts. If you need to move a domain to a different account, cancel the subscription on the old account and add it as new on the new account.
Advanced Topics
Multiple Domains Management
With multiple domains, you can segment traffic by brand, offer type, or traffic source. All domains are on the same subscription - adding a domain increases the quantity and monthly cost by $1. For example: 3 domains = $3/month total. This makes it easy to: isolate reputation by brand, separate client work (agencies), test different domain names, or retire problematic domains and add fresh ones.
Subscription Grace Period and Payment Retries
After a payment failure, your custom domain subscription enters a 15-day grace period with automatic payment retry attempts. The retry schedule is: Day 0 (initial failure, attempt 1), Day 3 (retry attempt 2), Day 8 (retry attempt 3), Day 15 (final retry attempt 4). Total grace period: 15 days. Total payment attempts: 4. You'll receive email notifications for each failed attempt. During the grace period, your domains continue working normally. If all 4 attempts fail, domains are suspended. Update your payment method any time during the 15-day period to resolve the issue.
Reactivating Suspended Domains
If your payment method fails all retry attempts and the grace period expires, your domains are suspended and tracking links stop working. To reactivate: update your payment method in the billing settings, pay any outstanding balance, and your domains reactivate immediately. Your DNS and SSL configuration remain intact during suspension - once payment clears, domains work instantly without reconfiguration.
Domain Reputation Monitoring
Monitor your domain's reputation using third-party tools like Google Safe Browsing, Spamhaus, or MXToolbox. Poor reputation can affect ad platform approval rates, email deliverability, and click-through rates, even though ClickerVolt tracking itself is legitimate. If a domain develops poor reputation: consider retiring it (delete the domain), and add a fresh domain for $1/month on your existing subscription (increases quantity). Having multiple domains on your subscription makes it easy to swap out problematic domains.
Subscription Management in Stripe
Custom domain subscriptions are managed through Stripe. You can view your subscription in your Stripe billing portal, accessible from the ClickerVolt billing section. From Stripe, you can: view payment history, download invoices for all charges, update payment methods, see upcoming charges, and view subscription quantity (number of active domains).
Adding Domains to Existing Subscription
After your first domain creates the subscription, additional domains simply increase the quantity. For example: you have 2 domains ($2/month), you add a 3rd domain, and the quantity increases to 3 ($3/month total). The billing date remains the same (anniversary of first domain). New domains are prorated for the current billing period - you only pay for the days remaining until next billing date.
